A. L. Cookson

Hastings resident (Alva) A.L. Lee Cookson, 68, passed away Friday, June 15, 2018 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings.



Memorial service will be Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 10am at the Berean Bible Church, Hastings with Reverend Sonny Birnie officiating. Visitation will be Friday, June 22, 2018 from 5-7pm with family present at the Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings. Burial will be at a later date. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings is in care of the family. Alva was born December 18, 1949 to Warren Orley and Elnor Margaret (Robb) Cookson in Beatrice, NE. He graduated from Lincoln North East High School in 1969, and then attended Nebraska Christian College, graduating in 1978. He married Jean Elizabeth Fultz August 4, 1979 at the Henderson Christian Church in Henderson, Iowa. Alva was a Minister and did many other jobs he called “tent making.” Alva served many years as a Pastor in many communities in Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas and Nebraska. He was a Boy Scout Leader for 50 years and was a member of the Order Of The Arrow and Promise Keepers. He enjoyed woodworking.



Alva is survived by his wife, Jean, daughter, Amanda Cookson and two sons, Jordan Cookson (Tiffany Steinkraus) all of Hastings and Joshua Cookson of Globe, AZ, granddaughter, TaLonna Cookson-Reynolds and grandson, Rhetli Wade Cookson all of Hastings, sister, Nancy Cookson of Lincoln, two brothers, Orley Cookson of Lincoln and David Cookson (Stephanie) of Atlanta, Georgia, two nephews, Robert Wolfe (Kendra) of New York, New York and Matthew Carter of Lincoln, NE, niece, Carrie Wolfe of Scotts Bluff, cousin, Karen Settles (Dennis) of Norfolk and one great niece and nephews and many friends. Everyone was family according to A.L.



He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Marjory Cookson, Aunt, Violet Schreiber, Uncle, Arthur “Doc” Robb and cousin, Carroll Schreiber.
