Alan E. Weinrich

Alan Eugene Weinrich, 68, of rural Grand Island passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at CHI Health St. Francis after a long battle with severe lung disease.



Funeral services will be at 10:30am on Tuesday, July 19 at Apfel Funeral Home with Fr. Jorge Canela officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7pm Monday, July 18 at Apfel Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in the Alda Cemetery.



Alan was born in Grand Island on April 17, 1954, to Eugene and Clarice (Hawkins) Weinrich. Alan attended District 6 Valley View Grade School and graduated from Wood River High School in 1972. Alan spent his whole life farming until his lung disease became too severe in 2017 and he was forced to stay indoors. Although he was homebound, he managed to still “farm” from the couch. He was often making phone calls to his youngest son to talk about the farm. He served on Cedar Hollow District 3 school board while his children attended there. He was actively involved while his children showed livestock in the Hall County Fair, Aksarben, and State Fair. He was recognized for thirty-five years of service with the National Weather Service in Hastings monitoring the Wood River. He also loved watching old westerns, NASCAR races on the weekends, and never missed an episode of “Wheel of Fortune” at 6:30pm.



He married Judy Sperling on April 14, 1973, in Wood River. They made their home south of Grand Island on a farm.



Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Judy; their children, Mark (Heather) Weinrich, Gary (Sonja) Weinrich, Lacy (Kyle) Carder, Buck (Rachel) Weinrich; grandchildren Madison, Olivia, Alex, Nolan, Brooklyn, Natalie, Alan John (AJ), and Jerry; his siblings John (Mary) Weinrich, Bill Weinrich, Wendy (Rod) Vlieger, Michael Weinrich. He was proceeded in death by his parents, sisters, Janet, and Jean Orlene.
