Hastings resident, Alice Jeanette Barnes, 92 passed away Friday, March 2, 2012 at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Society, Hastings-Village. Services are pending with the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Services will be 2 pm, Thursday, March 8, 2012 at All Saints Chapel Good Samaritan Society, Hastings-Village with Pastor Dale Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings, NE. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 9 am to 9 pm at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First St. Paul's Lutheran Church or to the Hastings Crossroads Center. Alice was born on March 19, 1919, to Alva and Edith (Wirfel) Sultzer on a farm five miles south of Hastings. She graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1937. Alice married Floyd W. (Shorty) Barnes on June 21, 1940. He passed away in April, 1973. Alice was a lifelong member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, as well as a longtime member of Eagles, Elks and V.F.W. Auxiliaries. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking. She also spent various periods in her life employed by Mary Lanning Hospital, Big 'G' Ace Hardware and Hastings Senior High School Cafeteria. In her earlier years, Alice enjoyed golfing and in later years, she preferred bingo, card playing and watching T V sports programs. She is survived by, two sons Larry and wife Susan of Hastings and Robert and wife Patti of North Bend, OR; three daughters Beverly Jean Gardner and husband Michael of North Platte, NE, Connie Kae Stover and husband Gail of Ash Grove, MO, Janet Sue Schroeder and husband David of Kearney, NE and sister-in-law Dorothy Sultzer of Hastings. Alice was also blessed with ten grandchildren and thirteen great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Shorty, a sister, Mary Sultzer, and two brothers Roy and Lester Sultzer.
