Alice Marie Deeds Cordes Broberg, 65, of Doniphan, passed away, Monday, November 18, 2013 at her home in Doniphan. She was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in 2002. She battled the chronic disease diligently until spreading her wings to eternal life. Celebration of Life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lonnie Logan officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Habitat for Humanity, 410 West 2nd, Grand Island, NE 68801. Alice was born, November 19, 1947 at Loup City, Nebraska. The seventh child of Edward Willis and Marie Emma Augusta Schmidt Deeds Edghill. She was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelton. She graduated from Shelton High School with the class of 1967. During high school she detasseled, waitressed at the Shelton Caf, and volunteered at Shelton United Methodist Church office. She attended Kearney State College and in 1997 received an Associate of Arts degree from Central Community College, Grand Island. From 1967 until 1972 she worked for Dr. R.D. Johnson in Kearney; 1972-1984 the Shelton Clipper and Publishing; 1984-1989 Gangwish Seed Farms, Gibbon; 1990-2000 Insur, Grand Island and Grand Island Public Library from 2000-2007. She was united in marriage to Robert (George) Cordes, November 4, 1967 at the Shelton Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They became a family of three with son, Andrew and made their home in Shelton. Bob tragically died in a job related accident in 1985. Alice & Bruce Broberg were united in marriage August 18, 1989 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. Alice gained two bonus sons Bryan and Brad Broberg. They made their home in Grand Island later moving to rural Doniphan in 2000. Alice lived a Christian life, and believed in positive thinking and laughter. She always had a cookbook or cooking magazine within reach, enjoyed reading non-fiction and fiction books, completing Sudoku puzzles, being in the kitchen trying new recipes and baking bread using her mothers Al Bran recipe. She preferred coffee to tea, butter to mayo, Diet Coke, autumn, fresh flowers, morning, bracelets, red nail polish, hats, and would never say no to a glass of wine. She smiled the biggest when around the children and grandchildren. She had a fondness for driving fast and collected speeding tickets throughout Nebraska and Iowa. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Bruce of Doniphan, son and daughter-in-law, Andy & Katie Cordes of Bennington, stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law Bryan & Kiki Broberg of West Des Moines, Iowa, Brad & Kristin Broberg of Waukee, Iowa. Along with grandchildren Laila & Ethan Cordes, Ellie & Benjamin Broberg, Cade, Will & Reid Broberg. Her siblings Irma & Milton Schroeder of Shelton, Jerry & Joyce Deeds of Bennington, Roy & Linda Deeds of North Platte and sister-in-law Pat Deeds of Lincoln, along with nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward W. Deeds, Marie Schmidt Deeds Edghill and step father, Melvin Edghill, first husband, Robert (George) Cordes, a sister & brother-in-law, Laura & Duane Meyers, a brother and sister-in-law, Edward A. & Rosemary (Rosie) Deeds and a brother, Harold (Harry) D.
