Allan C. Roemmich passed away peaceably on Sunday, July 24, 2016, at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island with family at his side. He was born to Adolph and Olga (Rath) Roemmich on a farm near Sutton, NE on June 30, 1923.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5PM until 7PM July 26, 2016, at Apfel Funeral Home with a memorial service on Wednesday, July 27, at 2:00 PM in the Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. The family invites everyone to join them at the church after the interment for a time of food and fellowship.
Allan was the manager of Chapman Coop Credit for 41 years. He served as president of the Nebraska Credit Unions and helped initiate and served as the first president of NUCA (National Credit Union Association)which is the organization for credit unions similar to the FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) for banks. Allan liked to help on community projects and provided leadership when he could. He enjoyed his family, friends, church, school, work and having fun. He spent many hours at the bridge table and on the dance floor. He was a life master in bridge. He graduated from Sutton High in the class of 1940 and later from the Lincoln School of Commerce. Allan was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. He served as a Stephen Minister and on the church council for many years. He also served as Trinitys finance committee chairman and was a member of the state finance committee for the Methodist conference.
He served in the US Army beginning in 1945 and was stationed in the Criminal Investigation Department in Hawaii.
He is survived by Elsie (Purdy) Roemmich his loving wife of 71 years, three children: son Roger Roemmich of Atlanta, GA, daughters Marjorie (David) Little of Hastings, NE, and Gail (Ben) Kistler of Grand Island, seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, brother Ron Roemmich, sisters Edith Peterson and Twila Trautman. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Agnes Frakes and Velma Zimbelmann, grandson Matthew Kistler, and in-laws Howard and Mabel Purdy. Allans favorite philosophy was If you help someone up the hill, you will be nearer the top yourself. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Trinity United Methodist Church.
