Andrew Andy C. Bohnart, 77 of Wood River, died Monday, November 12, 2012 at his home, after a lengthy illness. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 16, 2012 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Wood River with the Rev. Fr. James Janovec and Rev. Fr. Donald OBrien officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island. Visitation hours will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the church with the rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Marys Catholic Church Building Fund and Wood River and Shelton Fire Departments. Apfel Funeral Home of Wood River is caring for the family. Andy Bohnart was born April 14, 1935 in Wood River, Nebraska the son of George and Eunice (Collins) Bohnart. He grew up in the Wood River area and attended Wood River High School. He was united in marriage to Mary Hiser, May 22, 1954 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Wood River. The couple made their home in the Shelton and Wood River area where they farmed until retirement in 1999. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, Wood River, Honorary Life member of the Knights of Columbus and member of the Platt-Duetsche Society. Andy was a devoted volunteer at the Wood River Nursing home until will health forced him to retire. He enjoyed barbequing for many events. Andy loved life, his family and his many, many friends, including his special little buddies, Grant and Sterling and little neighbor, Johnna. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Mary of Wood River, a son and daughter in law, Randy & Kathy Bohnart of Grand Island, a daughter & son in law, Brenda & Brad Sorensen of York, grandchildren: Amanda Christensen of Grand Island, Brannon & Brett Sorensen of York and great grandchildren: Connor and Abby Christensen of Grand Island. Sisters and brothers in law, Georgiann Husen-Tucker and husband, Glen of Grand Island, Martha & Bill Ellis of Omaha, brothers and sisters in law, Ed & Renee Bohnart of Greenville, WI, Gary and Nell Bohnart of Wood River and many nieces and nephews.
