Hastings resident, Anita Louise Bennett, 81, passed away Wednesday, October 17, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings.
Memorial service will be at 2 pm, Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings with Pastor Andrea Paulson officiating. There will be no visitation, Anita’s wishes were to be cremated. Burial will be at a later date. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. Apfel Funeral Home is in care of the family. Anita was born July 19, 1937 to Lawrence E. and Anna Louise (Parkhurst) Sale in St. Joseph, MO. The family moved to Hastings where Anita attended Jr. High and graduated from Hastings High School in 1955. She married Arvene Lee Bennett on November 19. 1955 in Hastings. Arvene passed away March 30, 2010. They then moved to Colorado in 1958. She managed a gift shop and was a line foreman in an electronics factory. In 1981 the family returned to Hastings. Anita worked as a night supervisor at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in the Environmental department, retiring in 1999. Anita then volunteered at Mary Lanning and Good Samaritan Society.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and recently First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church both in Hastings. She was a member of the Good Samaritan Ladies Auxiliary and Mary Lanning Auxiliary Board.
She is survived by one daughter, Martha (Alan) Dunne of Colorado, and one son Robert “Russ” (Cheryl) of Colorado Springs, CO, two grandsons, Nathan and Jeremy and friend Rebecca Kennedy and son Timothy “Tak”, three sisters, Kay (Glen) Krueger, of Auburn, Sharon Brooks of Virginia, Holly (Craig) Kohler of Oregon and one brother, Steven Sale of Hastings.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arvene and one infant son.
