Archie D. Lind

Archie Daniel Lind, 78, of Grand Island, NE died April 1, 2016, at Tiffany Square Nursing home.

Memorial services will be April 5, 2016, at 11:00 am at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Please dress casual for funeral per family request. The Rev. Bev Lanzendorf will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery St Paul at a later date.

Archie was born on Nov 7, 1937, at St Paul, NE to Vance Myrtle (Mortensen) Lind. He grew up and received his education at St Paul, NE graduating from St Paul High School. He continued his education at Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln, where he was a member of Zeta Psi fraternity, and served as house manager/vice president and then president. He received his Bachelor of Arts in 1961. Archies other advance degrees included a Master of Arts from the University of Kearney, Ne (formerly Kearney State College and a specialized degree for school superintendents.

Archie began his teaching career at Palmer, NE where he taught math and was an assistant football coach. Three years later he moved to Stanton, NE as school principal. After five years he spent the next 25 years plus years at Elba Public Schools where he worked as a math teacher, principal and superintendent. Through his college years he spent the summers working in the Clearwater National Forest in Idaho as a conservation manager.

On May 30, 1965, he married Joyce Boley at Fairbury, NE. The couple made their home in the different towns where Archie taught to this union born three children, Lisa (Lind) Whitaker, David Lind and Christopher Lind.

Before his stroke, 25 years ago, he enjoyed fishing and camping and boating at Sherman Reservoir. He also enjoyed hunting. There were many fond memories of the family cabin at Chads Lake with his parents and brother and sister and then with his family and their families.

Archie enjoyed playing board games and playing cards. His favorite activity was taking his two grandsons David and Joseph to swing at the park when they were little. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and watching them grow up. Reading and listening to music was his passion. He would finish at least 4 to 5 novels a week. His favorite NFL team was the Minnesota Vikings and of course his favorite college team was Nebraska.

Memorials are suggested to the familys choice.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Boley) Lind; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Jeff Whitaker; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David and Amanda Lind and Christopher Lind; six grandchildren, David Lind, Jr., Joe Lind, Noelle Whitaker, Alexis Lind, Connie Lind and Breanna Lind; two sisters-in-law, Becky Lind, Joan (Boley) Davis and husband, Jim Davis, and brother-in-law, Donovan Harris.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vance and Myrtle Lind; his in-laws, Arley and Lilliam Boley; brother, Herbie Lind; sister, Dolores Berry; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Donna (Boley) Harris, and Carol and Donald Boley.
