Hastings resident, Ariel Wheeler Lowrey, 94 passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Society, Hastings Village. Services will be Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 10:30 am at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings, NE with the Rev. Dr. William Nottage-Tacey officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE. Visitation will be Friday, December 17, 2010 from 9 am to 9 pm at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Memorials may be given to the donors choice or to the Childrens Hospital Foundation in Omaha, NE. Ariel was born June 14, 1916 to Charlie F. and Ida M. (DeLong) Wheeler in Syracuse, NE. She graduated from the Syracuse High School in 1934. She married Glen Walter Lowrey in Lincoln, NE on January 13, 1940 he passed away May 28, 2007. Ariel was employed by the Hastings Regional Center in Hastings, NE for 14 years retiring in the 80s. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, in Hastings, NE. Ariel will be remembered for her quick wit, her subtle sense of humor, readiness to laugh and a broad knowledge of many topics. She also will be remembered for her creativity of how to prepare chicken feathers for water paintings, how to make bows and arrows from lilac bushes, and how to cook in an Indian hole. She had a green thumb and grew beautiful flowers and vegetables. Remembrance include, how to teach a poor student to read, making Kool-Aid in the park, freezing cold walks to downtown Lincoln, NE to see TV Annie Oakley but it was too cold to stand in line so shed walk back home, Saturday movies when admission was two or three milk carton tops, and hot summer walks to downtown Lincoln, NE to the swimming pool. She is much loved and will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by one son, Gerald W. Lowrey of Georgetown, TX, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glen, one daughter, Marilyn Ruth Lowrey, two infant sons, and two sisters, Salome Mueller and Naomi Wheeler.
