Arnold A. Jelinek, 88 of Grand Island, died Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Valley County Health Systems in Ord, Nebraska.
Services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 25, 2016 at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Reverend Trudy Anderson will be officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Sunday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
Arnold was born on May 12, 1927 in Farwell, Nebraska to John C. and Alice V. (Novak) Jelinek. He grew up in Farwell, attended Howard County District 38 School and graduated from Farwell High School in 1944.
He was united in marriage Ruth Scherzberg on August 27, 1948 in Steinhauer, Nebraska. The couple lived on the family farm near Farwell where Arnold farmed until 1953. They then moved to Grand Island and he worked at Lincoln Equipment Company and Nebraska Machinery until his retirement in 1992.
Arnold loved spending time at their cabin near the Calamus Lake in Garfield County, where he fished and played golf. He also loved camping, playing cards with friends, hunting deer north of Broken Bow, and especially listening to Czech music. He also enjoyed all the good times spent with his family. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church.
Survivors of his immediate family include his wife, I. Ruth Jelinek; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and David Winkler of Burwell, Nebraska and Kristi and Patrick Hendrickx of Butler, Minnesota; and one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Linda Jelinek of Grand Island, Nebraska. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, John Jelinek and Donald Jelinek; and 2 sisters-in-law.
