Hastings resident, Arvene Lee Bennett, 78 passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, Neb. Memorial Service will be Monday, April 5, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Warneke officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Book signing will be the day of the funeral at the church from 9 AM up till service time. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Arvene was born April 30, 1931 to Wilfred E. and Martha C. (Hansen) Bennett in Holstein, Neb. The family moved to Hastings, Neb in 1941. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1950 and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country as an AP in North Africa until 1954 when he returned home. He married Anita L. Sale in November of 1955 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hastings, Neb. Arvene and Anita resided in Trumbull, Neb until September of 1958, moving to Grand Junction, CO where he worked with his older brother Darrell. In 1961 they moved to Northglenn, CO. They lived there until Arvenes retirement from Gates Rubber Company in 1981. With the family grown, Arvene and Anita returned to Hastings. He worked for the Hastings Museum retiring in April of 1993. After retirement he pursued his love of gardening, fishing and fixing everything in sight full time. He also became a skilled and prolific baker. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, in Hastings, Neb. He is survived by his wife Anita, of Hastings, Neb, daughter, Martha Dunne and husband Alan of Lakewood, CO and son Robert Russ Russell and wife Cheryl, and two grandsons, Jeremy and Nathan all of Abilene, TX, and one brother Richard Bennett of Hastings, Neb. He was preceded in death by one son, his parents and three brothers. Memorials may be given to the Zion Lutheran Church, in Hastings, Neb.
