Grand Island

Arvilla Hieb, 68, of Grand Island, NE passed away peacefully on September 20, 2024 at home with her loved ones by her side.

She was born in Kearney, NE on October 18th 1955 to William R ‘Billy’ and Ida (Phillpot) Shafer. She spent her formative years refusing to grow up in central and western NE receiving her education at Shelton High School. She was united in marriage to Richard Hieb on 9/28/1973 at Lake Andes, SD. After which the couple lived in Alda, Ne. They welcomed a child Jenifer and later opened their home to “her special boy” Jason ‘Jake’ Pearson. Arvilla later moved to Wellsville, KS where she was employed by Olathe Medical Center and enjoyed farm life with her brother.

Her hobbies included riding her motorcycle both solo and along with her children and grandchildren and spending time with her family. Always the prankster, she loved playing around and making everyone laugh. She loved all her great grandchildren and shared her love for music. To be loved by Gammy, was a privilege all it’s own. Peace, Love and happiness were her life, and deuces were her wingman.

Those left to share her stories include her daughter Jenifer (Bobby} Leetch, Grandchildren William ‘Billy’ (KeyOna} Leetch, and Austin Leetch; Great Grandchildren: Piper, Wyatt, Remi, Tillie, and Emmett Leetch. She is also remembered by her “special boy” Jason ‘Jake’ (Danielle) Pearson and siblings: Willam ‘Dean’ Shafer of Grand Island, NE, Bonnie (Jim) Giron of Bullhead City, AZ, Joesph Shafer of Wellsville, KS, Donavon Giron of Topeka, KS and many other extended family.

Arvilla was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Ida, brother Troy Homer and nephew Nathen as well as many other extended family members.

There will be a private celebration of life at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island assisted in the arrangements.
