Audrey Schukei

Hastings resident, Audrey Schukei, 88, of 233 N. Hastings Ave. passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Mary Lanning Memorial Health Care, Hastings.



Services will be Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 10:30 am at rural Zion Wanda Lutheran Church rural Juniata, Nebraska, with Pastor Lon Landsmann officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Wanda Church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, December 12, 2014 from 12 noon to 6 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home in Kenesaw and one hour prior to services time. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel Funeral Home, Kenesaw are in charge of the arrangements.



Memorials may be given to Zion Church Cemetery or the Lutheran Hour.



Audrey (Stichweh) Schukei was born on December 14, 1925, in rural Kenesaw to Fred and Louise Lizzie (Stichweh) Eigbrett. She was baptized on January 10, 1926, confirmed on May 14, 1939, and married to Wesley Schukei on June 12, 1949, all at Zion Wanda Lutheran Church where she was a lifetime member. She attended Shiloh District 38 grade school, graduated from Kenesaw High School in 1943, and attended Hastings College. She taught in rural and parochial schools.



On June 12, 1949, Audrey married Wesley Schukei. They farmed in southwest Adams County until 1992, and they moved to Hastings, Nebraska, in 2004. Wesley was called to his Eternal Home on April 8, 2012 (Easter Sunday).



Audrey taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and LWML; she also made a display of all of Zions confirmands and placed them in hanging frames which are displayed in the church basement. She also kept a diary for many years.



Audrey was a devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by two sons: Terry Schukei and wife Linda of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Clint Schukei and wife Sheila of Norfolk, Nebraska; one daughter, Sonya and husband Roger Forsgren of Lincoln, Nebraska. She leaves five grandchildren: Kirstin Schukei and husband Daniel Smead, of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Nathan Schukei and wife Karyn of Cologne, Minnesota; Kelly and Abby Schukei of Bellevue, Nebraska; Tony Schukei of Lincoln, Nebraska. Three great-grandchildren, Henry Wesleyi, Oliver Gates, and Everett Nathan Schukei of Cologne, Minnesota; and three step great-grandchildren-Cole, Armond, and Oceana Smead of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Sister in law, Edna Stichweh of Hastings, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Eugene Nienhueser and wife Marge of Hastings, Nebraska.



Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Jackie Lynn; husband, Wesley Schukei; four sisters: an infant sister, Caroline (Lamar) Lepin, Marie (Gilbert) Finnigsmier, Alta Stichweh. Three brothers: Lawrence (Freida) Stichweh, Orville (Marilyn) Stichweh.and Freddie (Wanda) Stichweh.
