Barbara J. Rayback, 88, of Grand Island died Sunday, May 5, 2019, at Good Samaritan Society – Grand Island.



Memorial services will be at 1:00 Thursday at Apfel Funeral Home. The Rev. Trudy Hanke will officiate. Burial of cremains will be in the Shelton Cemetery.



Barbara Jean (Hendrickson) Rayback was born August 21, 1930, at Gibbon, Nebraska to Elmer and Loren (Nelson) Hendrickson. She grew up and received her education in rural Gibbon and graduated from Shelton High School.



Barbara married James Rayback on September 3, 1948 at Kearney, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Dix, Nebraska where she was employed by the rural school district. Barbara also lived in Kimball, Scottsbluff and Kearney where she provided in-home childcare.



She was a member of the Methodist faith.



Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Paul Leeper of Grand Island; three sons and spouses, Randy and Cindy Rayback of Arvada, CO, Terry and Kathy Rayback of San Diego, CA and Greg Rayback and Marlene Fellers of Grand Island; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lynn and Judy Hendrickson of Gibbon, NE and Bill and Sue Hendrickson of Phoenix, AZ.



She was preceded in death by her husband, James in 2010; and her sister, Patricia Bateman.
