Barry Wayde Cooper

Barry W. Cooper, 63, of York died on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at York, NE. A Memorial Service will be 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with Derek Apfel officiating. Burial will follow in the Grand Island City Cemetery. A gathering of friends and family will be held an hour before the start of the service. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date. 

He was born on August 10, 1961, at Omaha, NE to Wayne and Donna Sue Cooper. He grew up around Omaha, NE as well as Kansas. Barry was united in marriage to Sandra Haumont on January 9, 1982, at the Methodist Church in Grand Island, NE. They would reside in Grand Island thereafter. 

Barry was a member of the Phillips Volunteer Fire Department and was also a hunter safety course instructor. He loved doing anything in the outdoors: camping, hunting, and fishing with friends and family. Barry enjoyed drawing and painting in his free time as well as watching Western and war shows or movies. He was a big fan of Nebraska Husker football and the Kansas City Chiefs. 

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Haumont-Cooper of York, NE; children: Amber (Allen) Starkweather of York, NE and Dakota (Danielle) Cooper of York, NE; grandchildren: Dominic, Derek, and Dusty Cooper; mother, Donna Sue Cooper of Central City, NE; siblings: Curt (Joyce) Cooper of Central City, NE, Robyn (Scott) Evans of Decatur, IL, Corey (Cindy) Cooper Gothenburg, NE; brothers-in-law: Randy (Jane) Haumont of Phillips, NE and Tim (Tammy) Haumont of Grand Island, NE; and sisters-in-law: Jan Haumont of Grand Island, NE, Ramona Burry of Grand Island, NE, Laura Stuchlik of Grand Island, NE, Kathy Haumont, and Becky Haumont.

Barry is preceded in death by his infant son, Dusty Lee Cooper (9/21/1983-10/13/1983); grandparents: Charles and Nona Cooper; father, Wayne Cooper; mother and father-in-law, Robert and Laura Haumont; and brother-in-law Bobby Haumont.
