Belva J. Berck

Belva J. Berck, 67, of Grand Island died Saturday, December 10, 2016, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island. The Minister Bruce J. Berck, Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.

Belva Jean Berck was born June 3, 1949, at Fullerton, NE to Richard G. and Charlotte M. (Hawthorne) Eckstrom. She grew up in the Palmer area until her family moved to Marquette, where they lived for a short time. The family moved to Grand Island in 1964. Belva graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1967.

She married Alvin R. Berck on June 30, 1968 at Grand Island. They lived in Anchorage, AK while Mr. Berck served in the military. Shortly thereafter, Belva settled back in Grand Island. She worked many years in nursing until becoming disabled from a back injury in 1986.

Belva was very proud of her son, Bruce upon his ordination to ministry, and supported his ministry to the Christian Motorcycle Association. She enjoyed helping others, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She especially loved her little poodle, Pepper, who brought her great joy and companionship.

Survivors include her son, Bruce J. Berck, Sr. and his wife Lisa of Grand Island; one brother, Randy Smith of Doniphan; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and cherished friends, Jim and Dana White of Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Sherry Giersdorf.
