Betty Beck, 88, of St. Paul, NE, formerly of Grand Island, NE, died Saturday, October 20, 2018, at University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Monday, October 29, 2018 at Apfel Funeral Home with Rev. Kelly Karges officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-6 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial are suggested to the family for later designation.
Betty was born May 8, 1930, in Merrick County, Nebraska the daughter of Louie & Gladys (Verplank) Freeland. She received her education in Nance County. She worked on the family farm until she moved to North Platte, NE where she worked in nursing at the hospital for six years and later at St. Paul Hospital for a year. In 1960 she made her home in Grand Island where she continued her nursing career.
She united in marriage to Ronald W. Beck, June 23, 1964. The couple made their home in Grand Island, where she was a stay at home mother, doing in home daycare. In 1977, she went to work for Grand Island Public Schools as a cook, retiring in 1993.
Betty enjoyed spending time with family and friends, loved to bake, do puzzles, reading and Bingo. She also enjoyed gardening and canning. Betty was a fan of Husker football.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters & sons-in-law, Jeanie & Donald Hancock of St. Paul, NE, Ronda & Paul Barker of Grand Island, three grandchildren, Jamie & Marshall Roesler of Elba, Nebraska, Steven & Kassie Hancock of St. Paul, Jason & Christa Barker of Grand Island, seven great grandchildren, Joseph, Joshua, Heustyn Roesler, Emersen, Jarret Hancock, Jolene, Robin Barker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ronald, two brothers, & three sisters.
