Betty M. Schweiger

Betty Mae Schweiger, 94, of Grand Island, died Monday, March 06, 2017 at CHI Health, St. Francis, Grand Island.

Services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Gollaher Chapel, Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kelly Karges officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island. Visitation hours will be from 5 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at the Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church.

Betty M. Schweiger was born July 1, 1922 at Grand Island, Nebraska, the daughter of William & Irma (Neumann) Reese. Her mother later married her stepfather, Lawrence Jay. She grew up in Grand Island, receiving her education from Grand Island public schools, graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1940.

She was united in marriage to Bob R. Albee on March 4, 1944, at Holland, Michigan. She later married Earle W. Schweiger March 30, 1986 at Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple resided in Grand Island where she was employed by the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center as an administrative assistant for 15 years until her retirement in 1988.

She was baptized and confirmed in St. Pauls Lutheran Church and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island, along with her memberships at the Platte Duetsche Ladies Society, Liederkranz, Saddle Club and Riverside Golf Club. She enjoyed playing cards, golfing, dancing and bowling, but her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son & daughter-in-law, Ronald & Ren Albee of Austin, Texas, daughter & son-in-law, Gail & Terry Manzel of Bellevue, NE, stepson & daughter-in-law, Robert & Crystal Schweiger of Idaho Falls, Idaho, grandchildren, Seth & Daesha Manzel, Chandra (Mrs. John) Aoueille, Darcy, Taylor & Reese Albee, step-grandchildren, Earle W. Billy Schweiger III, Kimberly Sims and eight great- grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, one sister, Elaine Stumpff of Kearney, NE, one sister-in-law, Mary Obermiller of Grand Island, one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Hazel and Dave Rowland of Willow Spring, NC, several nieces, one nephew, and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Earle Schweiger, son, Gary A. Albee and stepson, Earle W. Schweiger, Jr, and one brother, Pershing Reese.
