Beverly Joan DeWall, 60, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2011 at Bryan LGH Medical Center following an accident at her Hastings, Nebraska home. A memorial service celebrating Bevs life will be held on Friday, May 6, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at First St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Kip Tyler and Rev. Joel Remmers officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, May 5, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with the family present from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, Nebraska. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Bev was born on July 5, 1950 to Ruby and Rick Greenwall and spent her early years on their family farm in Bloomfield, Nebraska. She first began teaching music after studying at Westminster Choir College and the University of South Dakota. In 1970, Bev met Chuck DeWall; they were married less than nine months later on August 22, 1971. (Chuck says that his only regret is that he waited so long to marry the love of his life.) Bev and Chuck would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this summer. While living in Creighton, Nebraska, Bev and Chuck welcomed their first two children, Erica in 1976 and Nichole in 1978. Then, after moving to Watertown, South Dakota, their son Nathan was born in 1979. Bev was a natural, generous, and loving mother. In 1989, Bev and her family settled in Hastings, Nebraska. There she continued her first love, teaching music to children. For the next two decades, Bev gave private piano lessons and introduced a generation of Hastings children to the joys of music. Bev taught her little darlings first at Watson and, later, Hawthorne Elementary Schools. On November 28, 2008, Bev was in Tucson, Arizona for the birth of her granddaughter, Lillian Ruby Corner to Erica (DeWall) Corner and Brian Corner. Bev once again became a Grandma on May 22, 2010, when Graham Charles Pezza was born to Nichole DeWall and Brian Pezza of Edwardsville, Illinois. Bev and her family gathered there to witness Grahams baptism over Easter weekend 2011. In addition to her family, Bev took great joy in her rose garden and her cocker spaniel, Dandy Doodle. Bev is survived by her husband Chuck, her children Erica, Nichole and Nathan, her children-in-law Brian Corner, Brian Pezza and Alice DeWall, her grandchildren Lily and Graham, her sister Barb Gillilan and her brother Ronald Greenwall. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent in her honor to the Nebraska Music Educators Association, 510 East 3rd Street, P.O. Box 101, Oakland, NE 68045-0101.
