Brian Curtis, age 63, passed away at Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard, NE on Tuesday August 13th, 2013 from lung cancer. He was the son of Charles Curtis and Marie Spillman Curtis, born on February 21, 1950 at Clarinda, IA. Brian graduated from high school in Corning, Iowa in 1968 and earned a BS in Vocational Agriculture in 1972 from Iowa State University. Brian was united in marriage to Kathleen Starry on July 31, 1971. Brian taught vocational agriculture and industrial arts as well as served as an advisor for the Future Farmers of America at Elk Horn-Kimballton, Iowa in 1972; co-purchased and managed Feeders Grain and Supply at Corning, Iowa in 1973; and later co-purchased Prescott Grain and Supply at Prescott, Iowa. Brian relocated his family to Beatrice, NE in 1987 and managed Diller Grain Company in Diller, NE until his retirement due to disability from Parkinsons Disease. Brian was a devoted father, husband, and friend. Brian is remembered for using his positive attitude in the face of lifes challenges to encourage others through the beauty found in Sky-Blue-Pink sunsets (http://brianskybluepink.tumblr.com). Brian is survived by his son, Brandon Curtis of Salzburg, Austria and Los Angeles, CA; daughter Cindy and Clancy Dempsey of Sun Prairie, WI; former wife Kathleen Curtis of Des Moines, IA; brother Jim and Carolyn Curtis of Corning, Iowa; and sisters Shirley and Ron Metzger of Holiday Island, AR, Dianne Meeks of Tucumcari, NM and Luanne and Larry Johannes of Massena, IA; two granddaughters and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Brian was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Jana Curtis of Beatrice, NE; nephew James Tuffy Heartsfield of Holiday Island, AR; mother-in-law Mary Starry of Creston, IA; and brother-in-law Kenneth Meeks of Tucumcari, NM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Corning United Methodist Church located at 901 Nodaway Street in Corning, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the Parkinsons disease Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
