Hastings resident, Calvin Maurice Hartwig, 86, passed away Sunday June 6, 2010 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, NE. Memorial service will be Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 2 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings, NE, Rev. Paul T. Dunbar officiating. Burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery, Kenesaw, NE with military rites. There will be no viewing his body was cremated. Book signing will be Wednesday, June 9, 2010 from 9 AM up till service time in the chapel. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Maurice was born November 24, 1923 to Calvin Homer and Gertrude (Hoppe) Hartwig in Kenesaw, NE. He graduated from the Kenesaw High School in 1941. He served in the United States Navy during WWII from December 11, 1942 to December 10, 1945. He married Wilma Sherman on August 27, 1949; she passed away August 22, 2003. He attended the Kansas City College of Mortuary in 1951 in Kansas City, MO. He had lived in the Hastings community since 1954, coming from North Platte; NE. Maurice worked for the Kansas-Nebraska Gas Company for over 30 years. Maurice was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #268 in Kenesaw, NE and a member of the Southern Hills Golf Club, south of Hastings, NE. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards and eating at the OK Caf(c) in Hastings, NE. He is survived by 1 daughter, Lynne Crowe and husband Mel and 1 son, C. Thomas Hartwig and wife Lori all of Hastings, NE. 7 grandchildren, Kate, Cassie, and Brody Crowe, and Phillip, Travis, Justin and Kristina Hartwig. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, his parents, and 2 sisters, Doris Sahling and Janette Strong. Memorials may be given to the Kenesaw American Legion, Kenesaw, NE.
