Carl E.D. Sharp (96) of Grand Island passed away Thursday, May 30.
Carl and Dorothy’s Celebration of Life will be 10:30 am, Monday, June 3 at Apfel Funeral Home-GI with Pastor Bill Pavuk officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 2 from 5-7 pm. Interment at Grand Island Cemetery with military honors.
Carl was born to Adaline and Benjamin Sharp November 3, 1922 in Gooding, Idaho. They moved to Grand Island very early in his childhood where he attended school at West Lawn and graduated from GIHS in 1941. At the age of 19 he joined the Navy (WWII) and served four years in CA and Panama. Upon his return to GI, he worked for a grocer, department store and settled into 21 years of clerking for Sothman Lumber Co., ending his career at 65 at Century Lumber (20 yrs). It’s not surprising he loved woodworking and gardening. He was a member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church, VFW, Optimist, Eagles, and Liederkranz.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Dorothy (Rauert); his parents; 2 brothers, Keneth, Howard;3 sisters Alice, Melva, Audry.
He is survived by three children, Robert Sharp, Barbara Watton and Cindy Wardyn, eight Grandchildren and ten Great Grandchildren.
