Carol Marie Mieth

April 15, 1930 — March 2, 2017

Carol Marie Mieth, 86 of Cairo, Nebraska died Thursday, March 2, 2017 at CHI Health St. Francis, Grand Island.



Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Cairo with the Rev. Jack Boling officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Cairo. Visitation hours will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2017 at the church. Memorials are suggested to Nebraska Christian Schools, First Baptist Church of Cairo, and Cairo Roots Museum. Apfel Funeral Home of Cairo is caring for the family.



Carol M. Mieth was born April 15, 1930 in Lincoln, Nebraska the daughter of Wayne W. & Alice M. (Slafter) Rolofson. She grew up near Lincoln where she received her education from Raymond High School graduating with the class of 1947. She attended the National Business Institute in Lincoln, NE.



She was united in marriage to Stuart Wesley Mieth on October 9, 1949 in Lincoln, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Cairo. She worked at the ASCS office in Grand Island until they started their family, after which she devoted herself full time to being a farm wife, mother, and homemaker. Mr. Mieth preceded her in death, February 7, 1984.



She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cairo where she was very active, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, working with girls club and AWANA. She was active in Christian Womens Club, Camp Joy, 4-H Club, serving as a leader. She was a member of U-Can-I-Can Extension Club, Cairo Roots Museum, Hall County Historical Society and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Gideons Auxiliary, Nebraska Christian Schools Auxiliary and worked to establish the Hall County Bookmobile.



Genealogy was her passion and she devoted her time to researching her family history. Her proudest accomplishment was the publication of the Rolofson-Knepper family history book. She was also instrumental in the placement of a Historical Marker for the Borglum Homestead on Highway 2 west of Cairo. She enjoyed her flowers, knitting, crocheting. Above all she loved her family.



Those left to cherish her memory include four daughters & sons-in-law, Diane M. & Travie Henry of Toccoa, Georgia, Cynthia F. & Roger Van Boening of Lincoln, NE, Lolita K. & Mike Schubert of Valentine, NE, Carolyn S. & Dean Johnson of Cairo, NE, son & daughter-in-law, Norman S. & Judy Mieth of Norfolk, son-in-law Alvin Penner of Duchess, Alberta, Canada, 19 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, brother & sister-in-law, E. Ervin & Marcy Rolofson of Lincoln, NE; sister, Alice M. Spath of Malcolm, NE. brother-in-law; Ramon Mieth of Hebron, NE.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Stuart Mieth, daughter, Arlene J. Penner, , granddaughter, Alyssa Mae Penner, grandson, Stuart Wesley Johnson, two brothers, Keene Rolofson & Wayne Rolofson.
