Carolyn L. Loschen

Carolyn Lee Loschen passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021, at her Arizona home surrounded by her family. Born November 23, 1941, in Kearney, Nebraska to Milton and Lucille (Snyder) Codner, she grew up in Gibbon, Nebraska and graduated from Gibbon High School in 1959. She was very active in music during her school years and played the piano and organ at Gibbon Baptist Church. Carolyn attended Kearney State College.



Married on August 14, 1966, to Terry Lynn Loschen, the couple briefly lived in Boelus, San Francisco, Kearney and Hastings before settling in Grand Island in 1975 to raise their family. After working several years as a paralegal, Carolyn attained her real estate license and later joined Real Estate Group in Grand Island. Carolyn retired in 2008, she and Terry spent their winters in Surprise, Arizona.



Carolyn was active at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grand Island and Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West, Arizona where she enjoyed singing in their choirs. Carolyn was also a member of the Grand Singers in Sun City Grand, Arizona. She was active in PEO in both Grand Island (Chapter CK) and Surprise (Chapter ER) and the Grand Island Women’s Club. Carolyn enjoyed serving her community where she was a member of the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce and also served a term as President. She was a board member and President of the St. Francis Hospital Foundation and a board member at Chief Industries, Family Violence Coalition, Crisis Center, and Friends of College Park.



Carolyn loved her family most of all. She enjoyed spending time with her children, siblings and extended family. Her grandchildren held a very special place in her heart and were able to join her for a very special last Mother’s Day before her passing. Carolyn and Terry traveled the world together extensively to places in Europe, China, Russia, Australia and New Zealand. They enjoyed cruises to Alaska, Hawaii, the Suez Canal and the Mediterranean, the Panama Canal, Central America and the Caribbean. Carolyn also traveled with friends to countries in Africa and Europe and made an especially memorable trip with her daughter to the Galápagos Islands and Peru where she visited Machu Picchu. Carolyn loved to meet new people and was an unofficial ambassador of Central Nebraska wherever she went.



Carolyn is survived by her husband Terry, daughter Sarah Clark and husband Fred of Leawood, Kansas, son Scott Loschen and wife Judy of Erie, Colorado. Her five grandchildren: Morgan Clausen, Chase Loschen, Riley Loschen, Stevie McCartin and husband Chris, and Annie Clark. She is also survived by three great grandsons: Charlie, Gray, and Teddy. She leaves behind her sister Marcia Ressler and husband Greg of Louisville, Colorado, her brother Steven Codner and wife Sharon of Gibbon, Nebraska and her sister Laurie Schneider and husband Mike of Las Vegas, Nevada as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents Milton and Lucille and her brother Harry Dean Codner.



A visitation with Carolyn’s family will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Apfel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church followed by an interment ceremony at Grand Island Cemetery. There will be a reception at the church following the services. Memorial contributions may be made to Gibbon Baptist Church, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Lord of Life Lutheran Church.
