Charlene L. (Knecht) Weber, 64, of Aurora, died Friday September 14, 2018 at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday September 20, 2018 at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island, with Rev. Wayne Oblender officiating. Family will gather to greet friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Charlene was born on January 2, 1954 at Flager, CO. to James and Peggy Phifer. In 1957 she was adopted by Paul and Alice (Giddings) Knecht and raised in Benkelman, NE and then Wood River, NE where she graduated from Wood River High School. She later in life attended CCC where she received her LPN license in nursing and worked in area nursing homes and as a traveling nurse. She was united in marriage to Dave Smith in February of 1972 and lived in Wood River, and later married Tim Weber in March of 1978 and lived in Bertrand, NE. Charlene then moved Aurora where she lived up until the time of her death.
She was a member and organist for Grace Lutheran Church while living in Wood River, a member and organist for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church while living in Bertrand, and was a member of First Lutheran Church while living in Aurora. Charlene enjoyed watching Husker football and volleyball, knitting, crocheting, playing computer games and watching movies, especially Disney movies.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Jodi Weber of Wood River; brothers and sisters-in-law, Darrell and Caroline Knecht of St. Joseph, MO, Darwin and Judy Knecht of Wood River; sisters and brother-in-law, Linda and Gary Thomas of Kearney, and Bev Myers of Kearney.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Alice Knecht, son, Jeff Weber, and sister, Cheri Knecht.
