Charles A. Charlie Janecek, 83, of Alda died Saturday, December 19, 2015, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 22nd and Wheeler Streets in Grand Island. Bishop Jerad Noorlander will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Cairo.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday at the Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to any Veterans organization of the donors choice.
Charlie was born April 11, 1932, at La Platte, NE to Charles and Dorothy (Persinger) Janecek.
He grew up in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, and received his education at Plattsmouth High School. He earned degrees from Peru State College and University of Idaho, graduating with degrees in Forestry and Range Management, and extra study in Botany and Animal Husbandry. He entered the U.S. Army on October 1952 and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in September, 1954, but continued in the Army Reserves until he fulfilled his eight years of service.
He was united in marriage to Yvonne (Ponsford) Janecek on October 5th, 1963, and united for time and all eternity in the Mesa Arizona Temple on December 27, 1979. The couple lived in Montrose, Colorado, moved to St. Paul, Nebraska, and later moved between Wood River, Grand Island, and Alda. He was employed at Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant until he retired. He then worked at the Hall County Assessors Office until his health prevented him from working. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and could always be depended on to give service when someone was in need. He enjoyed gardening and wood working, as well as counted cross stitch and sewing.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne; sons and daughter-in-law, James Negrete, Thomas Janecek, Matthew and Amy Janecek of Grand Island and Charles (Chip) Janecek of Grand Island; daughters Stephanie and Craig Hansen of Grand Island, and Nicole and Antone Roundy of Grand Island; and sister, Bette and Van White of Florida. He has eleven grandchildren: Noelle Janecek, Brenda Schleichardt, Mikaela and Elizabeth Janecek, Xavier, Zoey and Lincoln Roundy, Easton and Laramie Janecek, Jesse Soto, and Ashley Shotkoski; and six great grandchildren: Jaden Janecek, Araya Schroeder, Desmond Schleichardt, Ryan Shotkoski, Leiloni and Kaidlyn Soto.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy Janecek, and son, Michael Harris.
