Charles M. Sipple, 100, of Grand Island died Sunday August 25, 2013 at Meridian Gardens in Columbus, Nebraska. There will be a private family service at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Adult Day Care Center in Grand Island or the donors choice. Charles M. Sipple was born on September 7, 1912, in Grand Island, the son of Adda (Rockwell) and Joy F. Sipple. He spent his early years in Grand Island, attending local school and graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1930. He was united in marriage to Jocelyn Harden on January 8, 1938 in Lincoln. Mrs. Sipple died on February 20, 2002. Charles served with the 7th Armored Infantry Division in Europe. He was honorably discharged from the Army on January 24, 1946. He was awarded the Bonze Star Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge with three battle stars. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. Sipples adult life was spent in the mens wear field, both retail and wholesale, with positions in Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri. He was manager and co-owner of Curry Sipple Menswear in Grand Island. In 1959 he was chosen as the Nebraska mens retailer of the year. He opened the store in 1957 and closed it out in 1977, retiring from the retail business. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Linda of Columbus, NE, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, a sister, Juleen (Mrs. Barney) Reher of Henderson, NE, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jocelyn, brothers, Joy Sipple Jr.,, Rex Sipple and a sister Opal Mawhinney.
