Clarence Eugene Stoner

February 22, 1929 — January 15, 2018

Clarence Eugene Stoner, 88, of Grand Island died January 15, 2018, at CHI St. Francis Medical Center. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Reverend Russel Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Friday at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Clarence was born on February 22, 1929, in Aurora, KS, to Clifton and Elsie (Bates) Stoner. He grew up in rural Aurora and Concordia, KS, on the farm with his siblings. Clarence attended New Hope District #75 county school, and then graduated from Concordia High School in 1947. He attended Kansas State University.

On April 15, 1955, Clarence was united in marriage Joyce Ellen Frick at Trinity United Methodist Church. After which the couple lived in Grand Island. They both worked at the Cornhusker Ammunition Plant. He later worked for the Rainbow Bread Company, and retired as a salesperson from Kris Davis in 1988.

Clarence entered the United States Army on October 4, 1948, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on June 6, 1952. He was stationed in Guam, and had many interesting stories about his time there.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a past member of the Masons. Clarence was hard-working, honest, and willing to help anyone who needed it. He enjoyed yard work and planting garden. He and Joyce spent many winter months RVing down South. He loved tinkering with electronics and was a Ham Radio operator.

Clarence is survived by daughter: Shari (Leonard) Guzinski of Grand Island; sister: Louise Armstrong of CA; sister-in-law: Betty Stoner of Grand Island; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by wife: Joyce in 2010; son: Greggory in 2016; brothers: Clifton, Dale, Cecil, Harold Stoner; and sister: Leona Brown.
