We regretfully announce that Cleo Arlene Ramsey, 81, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2022, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s at the Memory Care Unit of the Delaney at Parkway Lakes in Richmond, Texas.
Cleo was born on January 10, 1941, to Richard Wayne Marsh and Opal Marsh in Grand Island, Nebraska. After graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1959 she went on to get her Bachelor of Arts in Education at Hastings College. Later she completed her Master’s in Education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
At Hastings College she met Jerold Ramsey and after graduation they wed in 1964 and had their son Timothy. Cleo and Jerry were married for married for 56 years until Jerry’s passing in 2020.
Cleo began her teaching career in Omaha, Nebraska, but due to Jerry’s military career, she also taught in Illinois, Michigan, Texas, and overseas in Turkey. She spent 26 years of her 38-year teaching career at Wood River Elementary School, where she was the president of the national teacher’s organization Delta Kappa Gamma.
Upon retirement Jerry and Cleo relocated to Sun City, Texas, where they were active members of local bowling and golf leagues and joined Crestview Baptist Church. Cleo led a women’s Bible study group for many years. They also enjoyed hosting and attending parties for the local Nebraska fan club.
Cleo is survived by many loving family members including her brother David Marsh and her son Timothy Ramsey.
Funeral services will be held at Apfel Funeral Home, 1123 West 2nd Street, Grand Island, NE, 68801 on Monday, February 28th at 1:00PM.
