Daniel E. Ohlman, 67, of Alda, previously of Shelton, died peacefully surrounded by his wife and children on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the V.A. Medical Center, Grand Island.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday December 8, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Shelton with the Reverend Ron Krause officiating. Inurnment will be at Shelton Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday at the church in Shelton. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Shelton and to the Shelton or Wood River Rescue Units. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family.
Daniel E. Ohlman was born May 9, 1950 at Kearney, NE, the son of Earnest and Alvera (Stelk) Ohlman. He grew up in Shelton and graduated from Shelton High School in 1968. Dan attended UNL for a year before enlisting in the United States Army on September 19, 1970. He served and was honorably discharged on February 20, 1972.
Dan was united in marriage to Teresa Luth on October 28, 1972 in Grand Island. The couple lived in Shelton where Dan proudly farmed alongside his brothers Dave and Bud. He served on the NRD Board from 2001 to 2013.
Dan was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and served proudly as an Elder of the church. He had a love of baseball and thoroughly enjoyed coaching American Legion baseball. In his later years he was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Dan retired in 2012 and he and Teresa moved to Alda. He was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease in 2013. He lived with this disease with grace and dignity until the time of his death.
Dan is survived by his wife Teresa Ohlman of Alda, three sons; Brian and wife Danielle Ohlman of Omaha, Aaron Ohlman of Grand Island and Andrew and wife Abbie Ohlman of Omaha, 7 grandchildren, Lindsey, Logan, Olivia, Ava, Katelyn, Eleana and Aubrey, brothers; Dave and Pam Ohlman of Gibbon, Bud and Lisa Ohlman of Shelton and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Brad Ohlman and his sister, Barbara Farris.
