Daniel Joe Rainforth, 74, of Doniphan, died Thursday, June 23, 2016, surrounded by his family at Edgewood Vista, a memory care facility, in Grand Island.
Services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Rosedale United Methodist Church. Pastor Kelly Karges will be officiating. A Private Inurnment will be held at the Rosedale Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be from 3-8 P.M. Tuesday, with family greeting friends from 5-8 P.M. at the Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
Dan was born on October 24, 1941, in Hastings, Nebraska to Maurice and Margaret (MaHurin) Rainforth. He grew up in rural Doniphan and received his education at Rosedale Country School and graduated from Doniphan High School in 1960. He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He entered the U.S. Army in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1967. He was united in marriage to Patricia Pokorney on September 1, 1963, in Grand Island. They made their home west of Doniphan where he farmed.
Dan was a lifelong member of the Rosedale United Methodist Church. He served on the Rosedale Cemetery Board for 30 years, as well as various other community and church committees.
Dans lifelong passions were faith, family, farming, and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Patricia of Doniphan; sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Lori Rainforth, Brent and Suzy Rainforth, Troy and Ginny Rainforth, all of Doniphan; daughter, Jill Rainforth of Doniphan; grandchildren, Bailey and Blake Rainforth, Sarah, Samantha, and Sydney Rainforth, Logan, Bladen, and Addison Rainforth, Allison, Ian, and Madison Osler; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard and Diana Rainforth, Steve and Janet Rainforth both of Doniphan, Dave Rainforth of Lincoln; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Peg and Jim Stulken of Doniphan; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Stan and Jana Pokorney of North Carolina; nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Joe and Margaret Pokorney; brother-in-law, Steve Pokorney; sister-in-law, Pearl Rainforth; nephew, Brad Stulken.
Dan and his family felt very blessed at the devotion and compassionate care he received from Edgewood Vista and AseraCare Hospice staff during the past five months.
