Daniel Thomas Bydalek, 73, of Kearney, NE. died February 23, 2019 at his home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019 at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney with Father Arthur A. Faesser officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Wood River at a later date. Visitation will be from 4:30-6:00 p.m. on Friday March 1, 2019 at the church with a short scripture reading to follow. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
Daniel was born on April 20, 1945 at Loup City, NE, the son of Daniel and Theresa (Makowski) Bydalek. He grew up in Ashton, NE and received his education from Ashton Public School, graduating with the class of 1963. Following graduation, he entered the United States Navy on October 22, 1965 and served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on October 17, 1969.
On May 15, 1971, Daniel was united in marriage to Kathy Shotkoski at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island, NE. The couple resided in Grand Island where he was employed by Crane Rental as a crane operator, they later moved to Kearney where he served as manager at Construction Rental until his retirement.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Kearney. Many of his hobbies included camping, visiting the Black Hills of South Dakota, playing pool, golfing and attending his granchildren’s many sporting events and other activities. Danny was known for his ability to shoot the breeze, his sense of humor and being known to help anyone in need.
In accordance with Dan’s wishes, the family asks those attending his service to wear their best Nebraska Cornhusker gear, as he was never one for dressing up or formal wear.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Kathy of Kearney; son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Patty Bydalek of Omaha; daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Jeff Lindstrom of Kearney; five grandchildren, Spencer and Fletcher Bydalek of Omaha, Ella, Ava and Mia Lindstrom of Kearney; two sisters Margie Palu of Grand Island and Dorothy Pfeifer of St. Paul; sisters-in-law, Virginia Pokorski, Patty Opp, Janis (Ron) Palu, Rosie Dooley, Joyce (Randy) Rowley; brothers-in-law, John Shotkoski, Thomas (Jacque) Shotkoski and numerous nieces and nephews.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, two infant brothers, sisters Mary Lou Wilson and Patricia Guzinski, and brothers-in-law Leonard Skorniak, Chuck Pfeifer, Larry Palu, Bill Opp, Tom Dooley and Pat Pokorski.
