Darrell Ray Hill

March 15, 1949 — January 14, 2016

Darrell Ray Hill, 66, of Grand Island died January 14, 2016 at Mary Lanning Hospital. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday January 21st at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with the Reverend Lonnie Logan officiating.

Visitation with the family receiving friends is from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday January 20th at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Darrell was born on March 15th, 1949 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Leonard Red and Elsie (Suck) Hill. He grew up in Grand Island and received his education at Grand Island Senior High. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Kay Timmerman in 1970 for 19 years and raised three wonderful children.

Darrell remained in the Grand Island / Hastings area where he was employed by Chief Industries for many years, followed by being self-employed operating D & K Construction and ended his working career with Starostka Construction supervising large construction projects.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and his hobbies included: coin collecting, hunting, fishing and playing cards.

He also enjoyed just about anything outdoors, watching his horses, and never missed a football season. He was always was content barbequing with family, friends and his 4 legged Labrador(s).

Darrell had a strong passion for Elvis.

Survivors include: Sons Troy (Christine) Hill of Temecula CA, Trent (Amy) Hill of Grand Island, NE and one daughter, Jennifer (Erik) Jeansson of Shakopee, MN. 6 Grandchildren: Amelia, Nicollette, Sydney and Garrett of Temecula, CA & Madeline and Molly Hill of Grand Island, NE. Brothers: Bob (Barb) Suck, Verne (Emma) Hill, Gale (Sandi) Hill and two sisters Pat and Bunny Hill and other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Red and Elsie Hill, and his grandparents.
