Dean Harms, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away at the age of 74 on June 25, 2024. He leaves behind a memory of hard work, laughter and love for his family and friends.
Memorial services for Dean will be held on Monday, July 1, 2024 at 10 AM at Apfel Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Jones officiating. Burial of ashes will follow in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 PM on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Apfel Funeral Home. Classic car owners are encouraged to bring your car to help with the procession to the cemetery.
Dean was born on August 14, 1949 in Sibley, IA to Kenneth and Darlene (DeNeui) Harms. Dean was raised in George, IA with four siblings (Donna, Kent, Kay and Brent). He graduated from George Community School and Sioux Falls College in Sioux Falls, SD.
He was united in marriage to Eileen DeVries on November 18, 1967 in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple had two children. Dean sold mobile homes, used cars and later drove semi to the east coast.
Deans greatest love was his kids, grandkids. Attending as many of their functions as possible. His hobbies were dirt track racing and muscle cars.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Eileen Harms of Grand Island; son, Rod (Dianne) Harms of Grand Island; daughter, Penni Harms (Dave Kimminau) of Grand Island; grandchildren, Cody (Taylor) Harms, Amber (Schuyler) Emde, Rylie Huff; great grandchildren, Huxton and Raeleigh Harms and Jaxx Emde; and all of his siblings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his in-laws.
