Delene (Dee) M. Wiseman, 86 of Wood River, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at CHI Health, St. Francis, Grand Island. NE.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, Wood River with Pastors Brad Jepsen and Darrel Holzinger officiating. Burial will be in Wood River Cemetery. Visitation hours will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church in Wood River with the family receiving friends from 5-6 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Wood River Community Foundation or Wood River Presbyterian Church. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Delene (Dee) M. Wiseman was born August 24, 1930, in Chadron, NE. She was adopted right after birth by Fred Vaughan. She later moved to Grand Island, where she was raised by her grandparents, Harry and Ethel Vaughan. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She attended West Lawn Elementary, Walnut Jr High and Grand Island Senior High School where she graduated in 1948. While in school Dee played violin and was first chair in Ms. Pinders Symphony Orchestra. She got to play in the Hastings Symphony Orchestra and took pride in driving her Model A Ford to Hastings. Dee worked at Walklins Drug Store and JC Penney.
Dee met her husband square dancing with Hall County Rural Youth in Grand Island. Dee married Marvin Wiseman on September 14, 1952 in Grand Island. They lived in Wood River on the family farm for 64 years where she helped with the farm. The couple had 4 children.
Dee was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wood River. Dee loved music, singing, reading, golf animals, but most of all she loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her smile and her love of laughter. She thanked God everyday that she was adopted by a loving family.
Dee is survived by her husband Marvin Wiseman of Wood River, daughters Joydene (Dave) McCarville of Sidney, Sylvia (Jim) White of Omaha, Merilee (Larry) Callahan of Grand Island, son Martin (Shelly) Wiseman of Wood River, 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her adopted father, Fred Vaughan, Grandparents, Harry & Ethel Vaughan and a grandson, Jesse White.
