Delmar D. Roth, 92, of Wood River died July 4, 2018, at his home surrounded by family. Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the Wood River Mennonite Church. Pastors Matt Troyer-Miller and Darrel Holzinger will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
Delmar Dean was born on September 7, 1925, in Chappell, NE, to Abe and Mary (Gascho) Roth. After his mother died when he was five, he was raised by his maternal grandparents Joe and Phoebe Gascho in Wood River. He attended District 37 school until the 8th grade. Delmar then helped on the family farm where he developed his life-long love of horses.
On June 13, 1948, Delmar was united in marriage to Evelyn Schweitzer at the Wood River Mennonite Church. After which the couple lived on the farm where he continued to raise crops and livestock his entire life.
He was baptized at the Wood River Mennonite Church and was also on the Building committee and Sunday School superintendent. He also was a former member of the Cairo Rural Fire Board and District 37 School Board. He was a current member of the Sonlight Bible Fellowship. He enjoyed annual trips to the Burwell Rodeo, playing Rook and Dominoes, and watching stock car races. Due to his childhood experience, family was a very important part of his life. He loved attending his grandchildren’s activities and family gatherings.
Delmar is survived by his wife of 70 years: Evelyn of Wood River, NE; children: David (Debra) Roth of Cairo, NE, Marvin Roth of Wood River, NE, Debbra (Wes) Reil of Pleasant Dale, NE, Cynthia (Rick) Yoder of Cairo, NE, Douglas (Tracey) Roth of Cairo, NE; grandchildren: Jessica (Marcos) Stoltzfus, Andrew (Raquel) Roth, Joshua Roth, Megan Roth, Caleb Roth, Nate (Mindy) Reil, LaMar (Shea) Reil, Nolan (Eva) Reil, Travis (Kelly) Yoder, Ashley (Landy) Walker, Chelsey (Jacob) Miller, Zach Roth, Mady (fiancé Ethan Young) Roth; 18 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Elaine Roth of Denver, CO, Theo Marie (Roth) Stutzman of Big Springs, NE, Arla Stutzman of Wood River, NE, Ramona (Herman) Keizer of CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Robert Roth, Chester Roth, Edward Roth; sisters: Agnes Daughtery, Josephine Pankoke, Irene Roth and their spouses; and daughter-in-law: Heide Roth.
