Delmer R Harders

Delmer R. Harders, 84 of Grand Island, died Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society in Grand Island, Nebraska.



Services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, June 8, 2015 in the Gollaher Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. Interment will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The Reverend Matthew Fowler will be officiating.



Visitation will be from 3-6 P.M. Sunday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated for a bench in Delmers memory at Suck's Lake in Grand Island or Donors Choice.



Delmer was born on April 9, 1931 in rural Hall County, Nebraska to Julius and Edith (Thomsen) Harders. He grew up in Cairo and Wood River and received his education at District 37 Elementary School and Wood River High School, graduating in 1948. He served in the United States Army entering on January 15, 1952 and was honorably discharged on October 14, 1953.



Delmer was united in marriage to Norma Jean Kosch on April 15, 1961 in Grand Island, Nebraska. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island, the Platt Duetsche, Saddle Club, and VFW. Delmer and Norma enjoyed dancing and traveling. He was a Husker sports fan and enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, and especially watching his grandchildren play sports.



Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Norma Harders of Grand Island; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Angela Harders of Grand Island; daughters and sons-in-law, Barb and Barry McCoun of Wood River, and Amy and Gabe Skalka of Sutton; 8 grandchildren, Brandi and her husband, Zach Siel, Mitch and his wife, Kendra Harders, Kristin McCoun, Sydney McCoun, Jack McCoun, Eli Skalka, Ty Skalka, and Carly Skalka; 2 great-grandchildren, Austin Siel and Aubrey Harders; 2 nieces, Donna Schultz of Cairo, Linda Winget of Grand Island.



He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Bell Jean Harders and sister and brother-in-law, Alberta and George Reinhardt.
