Hastings resident Dennis C. Salmen, 77, passed away Monday February 13, 2012 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings, NE. Rosary will be Friday, February 17, 2012 at 7:30 pm at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, in Hastings, NE with Father Joseph Walsh officiating. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 10 am at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, in Hastings, NE with Father Joseph Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE. Visitation will be Thursday, February 16, 2012 from 9 am to 9 pm with the family present from 6 pm to 8 pm and Friday, February 17, 2012 from 9 am to 4 pm at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Dennis was born Ocotber 22, 1934 to Melvin and Vaiona (Cue) Salmen in Fairfax, SD. He graduated from high school in Fairfax, SD in 1952. He served in the United States Air Force from September 1952 to December of 1956. While in the service he attended Weather Service School then went to the Marshall Islands for the atomic bomb testing program. He married Mary Nagano on October 18, 1955. They moved to Trumbull, NE and he was employed by the Heartland Co-op retired as manager in 1996. In 2010 they moved to the Good Samaritan Society in Hastings, NE. He is survived by his wife Mary of Hastings, NE, one son, Mark of Olathe, KS, three daughters, Denise Koch and husband Frank of Hastings, NE, Terry Bjorkman and husband Dennis of Doniphan, NE and Staci Abbott and husband Sterling, of McCool Junction, NE, seven grandchildren, Ross Koch of Hastings, NE, Sara Hageman of Thornton, CO, Matthew Beckenhauer of Omaha, NE, Amy Miller of Grand Island, NE, Laura Koch of Hastings, NE, Kaylin Salmen and Mason Salmen both of Olathe, KS, four, great grandchildren, Lilly Miller, Kenley Miller, Kycen Miller all of Grand Island, NE and Lyvia Gundersen of Hastings, NE, three sisters, Jean Opbroek and husband Henry, and Sharon Heyen and husband Jim all of Hastings, NE and Carol Lytle and husband John of Papillion, NE, three brothers, Arlen Salmen, Robert Salmen and Arthur Salmen and wife Betty all of Hastings, NE and one brother in law, Gary Schultz, of Trumbull, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Dorothy Salmen and Kathleen Schultz. In lieu of flowers memorial will be established.
