Dennis Edward Murfin

Dennis Edward Murfin, 87, of Crete, IL passed away peacefully on August 3, 2024.

Dennis was born on April 6, 1937 in O’Neill, NE. The only son of Darwin and Pearl Murfin. Widower of the late Kathryn Murfin (1994). He earned a Bachelors Degree in Education from Nebraska Wesleyan University, and then relocated to Crete, IL. He taught High School science and math for 30 years. After his retirement in 1992, he also taught briefly at Morton College, and then tutored GED students at Prairie State College until the age of 79. 

He was a mentor and father figure to many. He was an avid reader of science fiction novels and enjoyed listening to classical music. He was also an active member of the Crete Methodist Church and well known in his community. 

He was a devoted and loving father. He is survived by his four children, David Murfin, Tracy Murfin (Jennifer Speer), Karla Murfin (Carline Shipman), and Kelly Murfin; grandfather to Darren Murfin (Amanda Powers), Adam Murfin (Taylor Anderson), and Markell Murfin; and great grandfather to Ava Murfin. 

May he rest in eternal peace, and may angels guide him to everlasting tranquility. His love and memories will forever remain in our hearts.
