Donald D. Deanie Obst, Jr., 46, of Grand Island died Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Golden Living Center at Park Place in Grand Island. Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jack Gillam will officiate. There will be no visitation, as Mr. Obsts body was cremated. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family. Donald D. Deanie Obst was born April 3, 1966, at Ainsworth, NE to Donald Sr. and Madeline (Oxner) Obst. Deanie grew up and received his education in the Farwell, Grand Island and York areas. He graduated from York High School and went on to attend Hastings College. He lived in Grand Island and worked for his father. Due to his failing health, he became disabled. Deanie is survived by his father and step-mother, Doanld Sr. and Sandy (Gawrych) Obst of Grand Island; his mother, Madeline Kaye McCray of Hot Springs, Arkansas ;two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lonnie and Steph Obst of Lincoln and Brian and Megan Obst of Grand Island; three sisters, Phyllis Crooker of Ainsworth, Lori Rodriguez of Hot Springs, and Lisa Obst of Grand Island; four step-brothers, James Gawrych of Omaha; Roland Gawrych, Chad Gawrych and Jason Gawrych all of Grand Island; one step sister, Christina VanHorn of Papillion; and numerous nieces and nephews. Deanie loved to play pool, repairing bicycles and building models. He especially enjoyed attending farm sales with his father. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially pitch and rummy. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and one uncle, Roger Obst. Memorials are suggested to the family.
