Donald L. Glass, 94, of Grand Island, died Monday, May 20, 2013 at Good Samaritan Society, Grand Island. Services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Apfel Funeral Home with the Rev. Del Roper officiating. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Wednesday at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family. Donald L. Glass was born November 6, 1918 near Deweese, Nebraska the son of Elza L. & Emma Josephine (Ridpath) Glass. He received his education in Fairfield, graduating from Fairfield High School with the class of 1937. He worked with his brother-in-law, Harold Hoevet until he entered the United States Army, January 7, 1942, serving in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, China, Burma and India. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant, June 24, 1945. He was united in marriage to Frances M. Orr, May 3, 1945 in Omaha. Nebraska. The couple made their home in Fairfield until 1955 when they moved to Grand Island where he was employed at Rainbow Bread Company until 1972 and later Lutheran Memorial Hospital until 1985. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island and the VFW. Survivors of the immediate family include three sons & daughters in law, Jerry & Linda Glass of Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, David Glass of Phillips, Nebraska, Allen & Janet Glass of Grand Island, daughter & son in law, Donna & Frank Meister of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren, 3 step-grandsons, and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances who passed away in 1992; two sisters, Leota & Dorothy; two brothers, Leroy and Howard; and granddaughter, Kimberly Marie.
