Donald L. Hadenfeldt, 72, of Cairo passed away on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Good Samaritan Society Wood River. Services will be at 10 am on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo with Rev. Glen Keylon officiating. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Cairo. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 4 to 7 pm at Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo. Memorials are suggested to the Comfort Care Ministry (Moses) Fund at the Church, Health Care Connect at Home Hospice or Good Samaritan Society, Wood River. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family. Donald was born on March 15, 1940 at Grand Island, the son of Harvey W. and Vivian M. (Van Winkle) Hadenfeldt. He grew up in Cairo, graduating from Cairo High School in 1957. Donald was united in marriage to Florence Melhorn on December 29, 1960 in Cairo. Over the years the couple resided in Lincoln, Greeley, Albion and Cairo. Donald owned and operated Hadenfeldt Heating and Air for 29 years, and also was a Centura School Bus Driver for 27 years. Donald was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and was a past Sunday School Superintendant. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, woodworking, and working with the Churchs comfort dog, Moses. Donald is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Fusako Hadenfeldt of Cairo, four daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn R. and Randy Lewandowski of Seward, Darra S. Hargrave of Lincoln, Wendi L. and Myron Schaefer of Hastings, and Carla L. and Bill Orr of Des Moines, IA, 15 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Darlene Hadenfeldt of Wood River.
