Donald L. Snodgrass, 74 of Wood River, died Monday, February 3, 2014 at St. Francis Medical Center, Grand Island. NE



Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Wood River, Nebraska with the Rev. Philip Sloat officiating. Visitation hours will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the Church. Burial will be Thursday, February 6, 2014, at 3:30 p.m. in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Neligh, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the church or the Wood River American Legion. Apfel Funeral Home of Wood River is caring for the family.



Donald D. Snodgrass was born April 16, 1939 in Plainview, Nebraska the son of Ralph & Grayce (Young) Snodgrass. He grew up in the Brunswick area and received his education from Plainview High School graduating with the class of 1956. He entered the Army National Guard, October 15, 1956 at Norfolk, Nebraska and served with Company B, First BG, 134th Infantry. He retired from the military in 1989 with the rank of Captain.



He was united in marriage to Janet E. Smith, May 15, 1960 in Neligh, Nebraska. The couple made their home on a farm outside of Neligh and Clearwater, Nebraska before moving to Wood River in 1975. He worked for an Ag Supply Company from 1975 until 1989 when he began his employment with New Holland until 2003. He helped at Peters Hardware until the time of his death.



He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Wood River, American Legion, serving as a previous Commander, life time member of NRA, Hall County Regional Planning Committee and National Archeological Society. He enjoyed collecting military and Indian Artifacts, and being outdoors. His greatest joy came with visiting with people.



Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Janet Snodgrass of Wood River, son, Kevin Snodgrass of Omaha, Nebraska, a daughter, Brenda and husband, Terry Christensen of Minden, Nebraska, one grandson, Collin and wife Whitney Martin of Grand Island, one brother, David and wife, Carolyn Snodgrass of Plainview, a sister, Janelle Simmons of Humboldt, Iowa, and a brother in-law, Larry and wife, Julie Wachholtz of Pierce.



He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph & Grayce Snodgrass, sister, Jeanine Snodgrass Wachholtz and a nephew, Brent Wachholtz.
