Donald D. Pritchard, 92, a lifelong resident of Kenesaw, NE died on January 15, 2024, at his home. Memorial Services will be at 1 pm on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Kenesaw Presbyterian Church with Reverend Berke Landrum officiating. There is visitation from 12 pm until time of service. Interment with Military Rites will be at Kenesaw Cemetery following the service. Apfel Funeral Home is in care of the family.
Donald was born on November 13, 1931, in Kenesaw, NE to Clyde and Velma (Clark) Pritchard. He grew up in Kenesaw and received his education at Kenesaw Public School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and served in the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1954.
He was united in marriage to Verda McMurtry on October 4, 1952, in Kenesaw. The couple lived in Kenesaw and Donald was employed by the Adams County Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator.
He was a member of Kenesaw Presbyterian Church. He also served on the Kenesaw Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the American Legion for 52 years. He enjoyed going fishing and camping. He also had a passion for trains.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Verda, son Mike (Lorna) Pritchard, daughters Mary (Dennis) Powell, Trish Rasmussen, eight grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Doris Peet, and Shirley Schenk, sons-in-law, Doug Jensen, and Jay Rasmussen.
