Donald K. Routh, 67, of Grand Island died Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at CHI Health St. Francis.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, December 26th at the Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Russ Anderson will officiate.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place.
Donald Kenneth Routh was born February 12, 1948 at Kearney, Nebraska to Truxton and Evelyn (Grier) Routh.
He grew up and attended school in Kearney, graduating from Kearney High School in 1966. He continued his education at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.
Don was united in marriage to Susan Miller in October of 1989 at the United Methodist Church in Aurora, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Grand Island where Don worked as a partner in Valley Vending, later selling his interest in the company to continue his education.
Don attended classes at Spencer School of Business, receiving an Associates Degree in Accounting. He then went to work for Harry Stalker in the real estate business assisting with property titles and deeds and later worked for many years as the bookkeeper for Mehring Enterprises.
He was a member of First Faith United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing during church services.
Don enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed woodworking, camping, telling jokes and being Mr. Fix-it around the house. Don liked baking, especially his Moms recipes. He also liked to watch football and baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Routh of Grand Island; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Jason Carter of Grand Island and Brenda and Rick Budzinski of Central City; three grandchildren, Calvin and Drew Carter, and Isabella Budzinski; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Beverly Routh of Lincoln, Richard Routh of Alma, NE and, Wallace Wally Routh of Maine, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Gerald Becker of Kearney and Patricia and William Brown of Lincoln, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, John Jack Routh.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
