Doris I. Nelson, 93 of Cairo, died Monday, August 26, 2013 at Tiffany Square Care Center, Grand Island. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2013 at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with the Rev. Bob Carlson officiating. A Private Family Inurnment will be in Loup Fork Cemetery, near Boelus. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date. Doris I. Nelson was born July 8, 1920 in rural Cairo the daughter of Albert & Agnes (Nielsen) Tagge. She grew up outside of Cairo and received her education from Cairo High School graduating with the class of 1938. She was united in marriage to John O.A. Nelson, March 19, 1941 in Kearney, NE. The couple lived on the family Farm where John was born and raised. John preceded her in death February 8, 1978. Doris moved to Cairo in 1993 where she made her home until moving to Tiffany Square Care Center in August o 2011. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, St. Peders at Nysted, where she served on the Church Council. and the Rebekka Lodge of Dannebrog. She enjoyed playing bridge, where she was a member of numerous bridge clubs, quilting, playing bingo and watching baseball. Her greatest joy came from watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include four sons and daughters in law, John A. & Claralynn Nelson of Dannebrog, Olaf & Kathy Nelson of LaVista, Nebraska, Donald Nelson of Broomfield, Colorado, Richard & Linda Nelson of Boelus, Nebraska, one daughter & son in law, Louise & Tim Mohanna of Cairo and daughter in law, Cheryl Titcomb of Broomfield, Colorado, brother-in-law Billie Maier of Lincoln, ten grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, infant son, Carl Nelson, a sister, Janet Maier, and a brother-in-law Kenneth Nelson.
