Doris Wells, 86, of Grand Island died Saturday, May 23, 2020 at CHI St. Francis Medical Center. A private family service will be held with Pastor Adam Snoberger officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or Newell Elementary School PTA. Online condolences may be directed to www.apfelfuneralhome.com.
Doris was born February 20, 1934 in Palmer, Ne to Henry and Lorna Mae (Lewis) Hagen. She grew up on a farm near Central City and attended District #48 Country school. In 1952, she graduated from Central City High School.
On July 11, 1952, she was united in marriage to Gene Wells at Edgemont, SD. The couple made their home in Grand Island. Doris raised her children while working at Brodkey’s Jewelers, Skagway and Newell Elementary School as a media aide in the library for 25 years. Doris loved helping all the children in the library. She retired in 2001.
Doris was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her beautiful flower garden, watching her grandchildren participate in Islander activities, watching baseball, listening to music and all Nebraska sports. She also enjoyed cooking and every family member had their favorite dish. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Survivors of the family include children: Brad (Deb) Wells of St. Paul, NE, Joe (Cindy) Wells of Grand Island, Wendy (Corey) Keezer of Grand Island; grandchildren: Abby Wells, Sara Wells, Brooks (DaNelle) Wells, Kirby (Hannah) Wells, Ashtyn Keezer, Kara Keezer; great grandchildren: Bradyn Berlie, MaKayleigh Berlie, Saneyah Bradford, Javonte Bradford, Luca Reeves, Charlee Wells, J.J. Wells, and Kallum Wells; brother-in-law: Neale (Carol) Wells of Grand Island and sister-in law Linda (Gene) Wolff of Kingman, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gene; sisters: Leona, Viola, Vera Mae, and Nelda. A lasting gift to Doris would be to plant a flower in her memory.
