Doris M. Sundermeier, 96 of Cairo, died Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Cairo with the Rev. Melanie Adams officiating. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation hours will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Cairo. Memorials are suggested to Cairo United Methodist Church, Cairo Senior Center, or the Masonic Eastern Star Home for Children in Fremont. Apfel Funeral Home of Cairo is caring for the family. Doris M. Sundermeier was born September 16, 1916 in Shelton, Nebraska the daughter of Claude & Ethel (Johnson) Lindsay. She grew up southeast of Cairo and received her education at Cairo Country School graduating from Cairo High School with the class of 1934. She was united in marriage to Charles M. Sundermeier in 1934 in Kansas. The couple made their home in Shelton later moving to Cairo in 1937 where she was a bookkeeper for her husbands gas business. She was a member of Cairo United Methodist Church, Andrew Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Central Nebraska Stamp Club and numerous card clubs. She enjoyed reading, sewing, plants, birds, cats, cooking but especially time spent with her family. Survivors of the immediate family include: one son, Charles M. Sundermeier, four grandchildren seven great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles M. Sundermeier, daughter & son in law, Marilyn & Roland Wiese, and one brother, Bill Lindsay.
