Doroethy Simpson, 91, of Grand Island, formally of Cairo, passed away December 3, 2021. Celebration of life service will be 11 AM Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Cairo with Pastor Jack Boling officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Doroethy was born February 20, 1930, in Western, NE to William and Agnes (Dwyer) Lackner. She grew up on the farm and attended District 40 country school. Later, moving into town, she attended Western Elementary and High School graduating in 1948. Doroethy married Donald Miller January 20, 1952. To this union three children were born, Conrad, Donald, and Juna. She married Charles Simpson on February 16, 1963, in Lincoln and he adopted Doroethy’s children. Charles passed away November 28, 2000.
Doroethy held various jobs throughout her life performing office work, factory work, operating and in-home daycare and working at a print shop. Doroethy and Charles lived in Lincoln, Phillips, and Wood River before settling in Cairo where she resided for 50 years. Doroethy moved to Grand Island in 2019.
Survivors included Conrad (Ellen) Simpson of Grand Island, NE, Donald (Diane) Simpson of Duchesne, UT, and Juna (Mike) Ruzicka of Cairo, NE; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Doroethy is preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Howard and Clarence; and husband Charles.
