Hastings resident Dorothy L. (Anderson) Salmen, 85, passed away, Sunday, August 8, 2010 at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Society, Hastings Village. Rosary will be Friday, August 13, 2010 at 10 AM at the St. Cecilias Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial service will be Friday, August 13, 2010 at 10:30 AM the St. Cecilias Catholic Church, Hastings, NE with Father Joseph Walsh officiating. Burial will be at the Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege; NE. Book signing will be Thursday, August 12, 2010 from 9 AM to 9 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Dorothy was born November 25, 1924 to Leslie and Mattie (Rademacher) Gitt in Phelps County. She attended District 8 elementary school and graduated from the Wilcox High School in Wilcox, NE. She married Wesley Anderson in Holdrege, NE he passed away October 20, 1987. On May 29, 1993 she married Melvin Salmen, he passed away, February 1, 2006. She worked at Eads Jewelry in Holdrege, NE. Dorothy was a member of the St. Cecilias Catholic Church, Hastings, NE the St. Cecelias Altar Society and a member of the Saints Quilting Club. She was a member of the Elks, Does and a past member of the Eastern Star, and the Extension Club all in Holdrege, NE. She had been a volunteer for Meals on Wheels since its inception and she was active and did volunteer work at the Good Samaritan Society, Hastings-Village. She is survived by 2 daughters, Patricia Baker and husband Tom of Trenton, NE and Betty Jo Anderson of Hastings, NE. 2 sons, Eugene Anderson and wife Theresa of Grand Island, NE and Stewart Anderson of Florida. 7 step-children, Dennis Salmen and wife Mary, Jean Opbroek and husband Henry, Arlen Salmen, Robert Salmen and wife Sheila, Sharon Heyen and husband Jim, and Arthur Salmen all of Hastings, NE, Carol Lytle and husband John of Papillion, NE and 1 step son-in-law, Gary Schultz of Doniphan, NE, numerous grandchildren, great grandchild, step-grandchildren and step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands, Wesley and Melvin, 1 step-daughter, Kathy Schultz, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Memorials may be given to the St. Cecilias Catholic Church, Hastings, NE.
